Get Your Contour on Point with the Rimmel Kate Sculpting Palette

Rimmel Kate Sculpting Palette in 003 Golden Bronze

I cannot believe it has taken me this long to give contouring a whirl.  Yes, I'd watched all the youtube tutorials and seen all the face charts with where to put what, but meh!  It was just too much work and I never gave it much thought.

Then Rimmel came out with this gorgeous 3-in-1 sculpting palette and I haven't looked back!  Now normally I tend to stay away from "do it all" palettes, you don't usually end up using all the shades and it works out better to buy the shades you like individually.  But, something about the ergonomic design of the palette (the way each shade is angled makes this palette so easy to use!), the rose gold, oh yes the rose gold was a huge swing factor and the very economical price all called out to me.  Lets also not forget all the hype and raving reviews the palette was receiving.  Yes, I was completely sucked in by the hype.

The palettes are available in 3 colour ways - 001 Golden Sands, 002 Coral Glow and 003 Golden Bronze and each palette contains a highlight, contour and blush shade.  The first palette doesn't seem to be available in Kuwait (I may be wrong), and after swatching Coral Glow and Golden Bronze, I went with the latter as I felt the darker more pronounced shades were a better match for my NC43 skin.

The highlighter though gold toned, has cool undertones to it which I don't think flatters me all that well.  It is a beautiful colour when swatched though and when used sparingly, adds a gorgeous sheen to my cheekbones.  The shade is smooth and easy to apply.

The blush is duochrome with both peach and gold tones.  Apparently this is a pretty close dupe for Nars Orgasm.  I wouldn't know though, I detest shimmery blushes - you see, they have a habit of amplifying every pore and imperfection I have and I've therefore hardly touched this blush.

See what I'm talking about?  Not using all the shades in a palette?  The blush is gorgeous nevertheless and if you aren't afraid of a little shimmer, then you will love this.

That contour shade alone however makes this palette a must buy.  It is a warm and matte (I live for mattes!) dark brown shade and is highly pigmented, soft and oh so blendable.  Blendable?  Is that even a word?  You get what I mean.

Rimmel Kate Sculpting Palette in 003 Golden Bronze and MAC 168 SH Angled Brush

I apply the contour with the MAC 168 brush.  Any angled brush would do to be honest.  Something small to really get into the contours of your cheekbones.  I run the excess powder on the brush down the sides of my nose, along my jaw line and at my temples.  Yes, pretty much everywhere.  Though subtle, the contour shade creates shadows giving the illusion of higher cheekbones and a slimmer face.  I'm kicking myself for not getting on the contour bandwagon earlier!

I bought the palette back in February and despite having used it every single day for the past 7 months, I've yet to made any significant dents in it.  There is just that much product!

If you'd like to try your hand at contouring, here's a great starter kit that not only lives up to the hype, but is also easy on the pocket.

  1. I haven't used many Rimmel products but I love it when brands have an all-in-one product! It also makes it easier to travel with!

    1. Oh yes, in theory that means that you'd end up carrying even less makeup when you travel, though in reality, I think it sort of deludes me into thinking that I can fit more items in now :P
