Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks

Liquid lipsticks aren't exactly new and I had absolutely no intention of getting another lipstick, let alone three, but on testing a few of these Rouge Edition Velvet liquid lipsticks at the Bourjois counter in Debenhams, I just had to own a few.  I bought three of the lipsticks in 07 Nude-ist, 08 Grand Cru and 12 Bea brun during this mini haul and I have been gushing about them ever since.

Bourjois promises full coverage, 24 hour hold, light texture and a velvet matte finish.  Sounds too good to be true, but do they deliver?

These lipsticks are creamy and provide an even opaque layer of colour that is buildable.  I love the doe foot applicator which lends to fuss free application.  This is probably a little OCD, but I also love that assuring click the lid makes when fully closed.  To be honest though, I don't actually find them to have that promised velvet finish and find that these lipsticks turn to a full on powdery matte finish once dry.  No complaints there though as I adore that true matte look and actually find them to be more wearable anyway, especially with the brighter and more deeper colours.

Staying powder is really good.  I first applied this lipstick just before going to bed as I had just bought them and couldn't wait to try them on.  Come lunch time the next day, though it had faded a little, the colour was definitely still there.  Though not 24 hours, that's still pretty impressive staying power!  This does transfer though and you'll be left with lip prints on your mugs.

Despite the creamy texture, I do find these lipsticks to be a little drying and this will cling to any dry patches.  However that can be fixed with regular exfoliation and always make sure to apply a generous layer of clear balm first.  The only thing I actually dislike about the lipsticks is that the scent reminds me of engine parts and almost smells chemical.  This does dissipate in about 5 minutes and I'm able to get over the scent, but you would think that Bourjois would've done something about that.  Or, is this the way all liquid lipsticks smell?  For all those lipstick-eaters, it doesn't taste that great either.

Swatches of the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Liquid Lipsticks in 07 Nude-ist, 12 Beau brun and 08 Grand Cru and swatch of the Bourjois La Laque in 7 Lycheers.

I find Nude-ist to be a little too pink for my skin tone and so wear it mixed with a red.  The Nude-ist liquid lipstick also came with a nail polish in a coordinating colour (how awesome is that?) which I've also included in the above swatch photo. Bea brun is my favourite of the lot and is the colour I reach for on an every day basis. Grand Cru is a deep vampy red and perfect for night outs.  My teeth look whiter when I'm wearing this shade and I immediately transform into a more sophisticated and cultured being!

These retail at an eye-watering 6KD per lipstick.  Why is drugstore makeup so expensive here in Kuwait?  Boots, Debenhams and Centrepoint periodically have offers on cosmetics though, so pick up a few during the next sale.  Teamed with a good lip balm, these long-wearing lipsticks (It took me 10 minutes of rigorous rubbing to wash off those swatches!) are amazing and I'm glad I stumbled across them.  Do try them out, it'll be love at first sight.

  3. Hi! Gorgeous right? I think there are around 16 or 17 different shades, so you'll definitely find one that you'll like. Have a look around next time you're at a Bourjois counter. Thanks for stopping by, means a lot!
