Freej Swaileh, really?

Freej Swaileh is a popular Kuwaiti restaurant in Salmiya.  It's so popular, that at times, you can be expected to wait up to an hour for a table.  I've even been told stories about how people cross the border to spend the weekend here in Kuwait and eat at the restaurant!  I'm not sure how true that is, but it gives you an idea of how good the restaurant is.  It's fairly inexpensive and the food is delicious.  The interior decoration is similar to Beit Dickson (see review here) and you feel like you're walking through Old Kuwait.

Over the weekend I had a huge craving for Arabic food and decided to takeaway machboos rice along with two plates of kebabs.  We were quoted a 30 minute waiting time which is normal.  On reaching home however, imagine my surprise when I opened the takeaway containers to see that all 6 kebabs (3 per plate) were burned on one side.  Now I understand that mistakes can be made in the kitchen and sometimes less than standard food gets passed out accidentally, however what irks me is the fact that the kebabs were placed burnt side down in the takeaway containers in an attempt to hide it.  Come on!

The kebabs were dry, limp and had that distinctive bitter/burnt aftertaste.  If I had been dining at the restaurant, I would've definitely have sent the kebabs back, however the thought of having to drive back to the restaurant and wait another 30 or so minutes for replacement kebabs was just too much and we let it go.  It is a pity I don't speak Arabic, else I would've shared a few thoughts with the restaurant.

On a side note, the machboos rice was absolutely delicious and I ate way too much of it!

  1. That's sad. It was one of my favourite places.

  2. I know, I absolutely love their food. I hope this is an isolated case.
