Review: Five Guys, Kuwait

Five Guys, Al Tijaria Tower, Kuwait

After craving burgers all morning, the girls and I decided to swing by the Five Guys at the Al Tijaria Tower for lunch.  They've been open for a few months now, but there's just the one branch in the City and though that's actually quite close, it isn't a place I venture out to all that often.  I can drive to the outskirts of Kuwait anyday, but the city streets?  I find them confusing!

The Little Cheeseburger at Five Guys, Al Tijaria Tower, Kuwait

We each ordered the Little Cheeseburger (KD 2.5) and let me tell you, do not be fooled by the word little.  This burger is in no way little and is as regular as they come.  I struggled to finish mine and I wonder just how big the regular size might be!  After choosing the burger, you get your pick of toppings from a list.  All toppings are free and you're allowed to be as simple or as extravagant as you want.

Now can we take a little time to honour this burger.  Lightly toasted pillow-like bun, fresh and crisp ingredients, oh gosh!  Though the patty is cooked to a well done, the burger was juicy and just ticked all my boxes.  Each bite was heavenly and I think I'm going to go as far as saying that this is easily the best burger I've had till date, and I've had quite a few in my 30 odd years of existence!

The Regular Fries at Five Guys, Al Tijaria Tower, Kuwait

Size wise, it was pretty much the same story with the fries.  We'd ordered the regular fries (KD 1.750) and were shocked at the very generous helping.  In fact, I almost thought I'd ordered the large by accident and had to recheck my bill.  The fries were served in the above white cup and then an extra scoop was added to the paper bag.  Having the fries just placed loose into the bag was a little strange for me, but hey, I guess that's how things are done.  The fries however were delicious!  Beautifully crispy on the outside, while still being light and fluffy on the inside.  Absolutely perfect.

The Strawberry Milkshake and a Fountain Drink at Five Guys, Al Tijaria Tower, Kuwait

No burger is complete without a shake and in addition to a fountain drink (KD 1.1), we ordered a strawberry milkshake (KD 2).  Like the burger, all mix-ins are free and you can choose any combination of toppings for your shake including whipped cream.

Peanuts at Five Guys, Al Tijaria Tower, Kuwait

Something I really liked was the sack full of peanuts by the counter.  After paying, you're encouraged to help yourself to them while you wait for your meal and thought it was a cute and novel way to pass the time.  The girls also had fun trying to crack the outer shells and we made a fair bit of a mess.

I also really loved the  paper bags that our order was packed into.  Quite reminiscent of ordering lunches from the school tuck shop, but I hate to think of just how much paper is unnecessarily being binned.  They should really tie up with a recycling company and have a separate bin for recyclables.  (Omniya provides recycling boxes to commercial spaces by the way, post here

If you'd like to try out Five Guys, they're located in the Al Tijaria tower on Soor street [map here] and you can check out their menu here.
